I have had a really sore throat for days and days and have been taking painkillers, but wanted a topical thing to take to ease it. When I've had a sore throat before while BFing pharmacists have told me the only thing I can take is honey and glycerine cough syrup which doesn't do a thing. However I reckoned that over the counter throat lozenges couldn't do any real harm, so I bought some anyway. However having googled the active ingredient, hexylresorcinol, it would seem that they are a bad idea while BFing, cf www.justanswer.com/pediatrics/1dfs9-27-year-old-mother-exclusively-breastfeeding-31-week.html. The BfN factsheet on coughs and colds medication (www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/pdfs/Cough_and_Cold_Remedies_and_Breastfeeding_July_2009.pdf) says lozenges are fine, but doesn't mention this active ingredient.
I should be OK with them, shouldn't I? My DS is 8 months and eats three meals a day so it's not like he's BFing constantly or anything.
