I have finally got my DD onto the bottle after many failed attempts. She was EBF before this but felt it was my time to stop. She was always a 'snacker' and fed for short times on demand. I never really felt like she was getting much from me apart from last feed where she would feed for 20mins and empty both sides.

Now she is taking a bottle (formula and breast milk) I can see how much she is taking and worry she isn't taking enough.

today

7am - 4oz
11am - 1oz
4pm - 2oz
6.30pm - 4oz
(usually) one night BF - only one side

Does this sound like enough milk? She is having 3 puree meals plus finger food.

She just isn't interested in milk in the day (and wasn't really when BF) The thing that has made me worry is the side of the formula packet that says she should be having 20oz in 3 feeds

Are those amounts all FF?

If not, you can't really compare FF and EBM. As a rough guide for expressed milk, it's approximately 1oz/hr regardless of age and weight (until weaning when it goes down). FF amounts you'll have to work out for yourself, but hopefully someone more experienced in FF can come along.

OK just read it's 7 months not 7 weeks Blush How much they take is so dependent on how much solids she eats it's hard to put an amount to it.

If she seems happy, alert and not fighting the FF then relax :)

FWIW DD was always a 5 mins eater every 2 hours (day and night)

a minimum of 20oz is recommended between 6 months and 1 year. You can also make up the intake through milk in cereal, in foods, etc plus any dairy products she has e.g. yoghurt, cheese/cheese sauce, etc

" The thing that has made me worry is the side of the formula packet that says she should be having 20oz in 3 feeds" is that what it says for a 7 month old baba or is that pre-weaned advice?

x-posted with Seona. So that is the advice for 6-12 months but like Seona says, she will be getting dairy in her diet, plus you are bfing. I'd try not to worry.

I think 7oz in one go is quite a lot for a formerly breastfed baby who won't have slowly built up to that amount like a ffed baby would have, so smaller frequent bottles is probably the way to go. And some babies just aren't as keen on formula as others - I have a friend whose baby has never drunk more than 15oz a day since she stopped breastfeeding, she just puts as much milk, yoghurt and cheese in her food as possible to compensate.

I left my 5 month old EBF baby for 24 hrs with expressed milk and she consumed 32 oz in 24 hrs. Each feed ranging from 5 to 8 oz!!

ummm... will try not to worry then. She is loving the solids now and eats variety. Today I made sure she had cheese and yoghurt with meals.

She has just had a formula bottle as last feed and emptied the 6oz bottle. Today she has had morning BF, tiny bit of formula at 11am and then BF at 3pm. Think it must be the solids so will make sure I include lots of dairy in her diet and make purees with milk also.
