Descaling a Steam Steriliser

I've been given a steam steriliser and TBH it's a bit smelly (damp, musty smell)!

It says to descale with citric acid, so do I just buy a bottle of jif lemon and bung some in or what?!

No! Just buy descaling stuff from boots! Little sachet plus instructions. Save the jig for pancakes!

Jif even. Stupid spell check!

Thanks Samvet Smile

You can use either lemon juice or white vinegar - cover the base - put on to boil - let the acid do its magic and then rinse and boil with fresh water.

I used Jif lemon juice and it worked a treat! I just made sure I ran it again with plain water a few times after.

Thanks guys. I've used a descaling sachet and it still smells so I'm going to put some lemon juice in it later too.
