Please HELP ME! Excruciatingly sore nipples - mastitis

My DS is 4 days old and I have had sore nipples from early on. But they're so toe curdling sore now that I sobbed in the night with the pain. He latched on this morning but i bled. My breast is quite hard around the nipple and I've managed to express 2oz but I'm still fairly engorged. The other side is just about bearable.

The other thing is - about 5am I woke up with a pounding headache, dripping with sweat and shaking uncontrollably for a few mins. My husband just had to hold me as I was so cold and shaking so violently - but he said I was burning up. Is this typical of mastisis!

This morning I have a headache and I'm exhausted, but don't think i have a temp. I will NOT give up breastfeeding - I've done it successfully 3 times, just need advice on getting through this! Thanks so much in advance!

I think you really need to see adoctor now to confirm it is mastitis and get antibiotics if it is. Keep feeding to try and clear the blockages.

Sounds like mastitis - first time I had it I thought I was dying, really bad flu symptoms & couldn't move one arm. I mentioned breastfeeding to the GP as an afterthought!

Keep feeding, keep with paracetamol/ibruprofen and see a GP asap.
