Any suggestions for bottles/cups for a 5mo EBF DD who doesn't like to suck at bottles?

My DD seems to have completely missed the point of needing to suck at bottles. She just mucks about and no milk goes in. This goes on until she gets so hungry that I cave and give her a boob.

I've tried Avent, Tommee Tippee and Nuk with no luck. It doesn't seem to be the design that's the problem - just that she's meant to suck at them.

However she will lap quite happily from the same bottle without the teat despite the screw thread. So I'm beginning to wonder if I should just go with that approach or if we should persist trying to get her to take a teat of some sort as that would allow her much more independence.

Has anyone else had a similar situation and do you have any suggestions for strategy?

Neither of my boys ever took to a bottle. Try the tommee tippee sippy cup (the one with the fold down spout) or a doidy cup. Both worked well for us.

Huge thanks. I'm going to give those a go.

My DS won't reliably take a bottle either and we've had some success with doidy cup too. Have you tried other bottles good for bf babies? DS will sometimes take milk from breastflow or Dr Browns - some sucking still involved though!

Badger - mine is the same (sits there with the teat in his mouth, grinning but not sucking). What I've found works is the Nuby brand, because the bottle is soft and squeezable - so you can shoot some milk in to give them a hint ;)

I found them on Mothercare and Amazon.

Did you try the latex teat on the NUK bottle? it's the only teat that my dd2 will suck from - if I accidently use a silicone one then she refuses! It is the only way I have managed to get her to take bottles after bf.
Incidently, she will now take a dummy too but it has to be a latex one! Maybe they feel more 'natural'??!!

The first thing (apart from a boob) that ever worked for us was the Tommee Tippee flip spout cup - took her a while though, so you may need to offer it many times before she figures out there's milk in there!

Dd3 loves her doidy cup. It can be messy so get a bib with sleeves! She is 5m too & weve given up on the bottle as she just played.
