Anyone have period-like symptoms before your cycles resumed?

My bf DS is 14 m.o. and my periods haven't restarted yet.

I've had moderate to bad cramping for 4 days now. It's been worse than period pains but not as bad as labour pains, and on/off. I've also had headaches (unusual for me nowadays) and been generally achey on and off.

I wondered whether the cramping might be my body getting ready to start again, but I wouldn't have thought it would be so bad.

Before it started I had a few days of being ill due to accidentally eating dairy (I'm intolerant to it). At first I assumed the cramps were because I'd eaten something else dairy, but they've just continued, whereas my dairy symptoms disappear once it's out of my system.

I've just cut out gluten in case there's an intolerance there, but the cramps started before I stopped eating it, so I doubt it's (just) gluten withdrawal symptoms.

Has anyone else had cramps etc before their periods started back again, and were they bad / did they last long?

I had mild cramping for 24hours before periods restarted. Also thought for a few days before that there was something happening but wasn't sure if it was related to periods, it was a vague sensation if that makes sense.

Hope it sorts itself out soon.

I had this a few months in a row before my periods came back after DD - they came back when she was 19 months :(

i def had a few times when my body seemed to be going through the whole cycle, inc PMT, without actually then having period. My cycle finally came back when DD1 was 27mths (only 10mths with DD2, very different feeding patterns).

Average is 14mths for mums that are b/f...but can be longer without periods for some and less for others, often depends on how often baby is feeding at night.

you can fall pregnant before your first period but often the first few cycles are kind of practice ones...my first 2 were 40 odd days each where my body just seemed to think "oh sod it, give up, have a period and start all over"

saying all that, i did get pregnant with DD2 whilst still feeding DD1, after only 4mths of periods and only 2mths of trying, which was nice as it took over a year to get pregnant first time round

Haha, yes Chocolate, you can definitely get pregnant before your period comes back. I did twice Shock. The second time we were using contraception too. But not having any periods on over 5 years was nice Grin

Interesting - thanks for sharing.

I did wonder whether I might possibly be pg, but I think it's unlikely, although not entirely impossible.

I always used to wonder why one of the benefits of bf was lack of menstruation - I thought it'd be a disadvantage as you can't really TTC (unless you strike it lucky). But this week has reminded me that 2 years without periods has been very pleasant (Envy at 5!)

DS usually feeds 3 times a day and once at night, with a 6 hour interval without feeding in the day and 7 or 8 hours without feeding at night.

He did go on nursing strike for a fortnight a month or so ago, when he dropped from 6 to 3 feeds per 24 hours. I wondered whether that might trigger my periods returning; hopefully my body's working on it. :)

that could well ahve triggered it. DD still nurses 3-4 (that I'm aware of) times at night and is on-off during the day. DS2 is down to every feww days :) which is lovely.

I didn't know if you could, but I've also been getting period-y cramps on and off without a period (DD is 9 months). I've even excused myself to go to the bathroom a couple of times to check, sure it was the start of things. It is nice not to have had any periods for 18 months now!

AngelDog · 20/03/2011 21:23

Well my cramps have subsided to grumblings although they're still hanging around. Now it's just wait and see. :)

WEll, it's obviously catching. I'm 3 days late now and and had cramps which have gone Confused. Unless DH's vasectomy has reversed itself after only 20 months. I can but wish

WoTmania · 21/03/2011 16:54

that was meant to say I can't be pregnant unless...

AngelDog · 22/03/2011 08:09

Eek...

I thought I was getting my period a few months back, and then got the odd cramp every few days for a few weeks. I went to see the doctor as unwanted to check what i could take for the pain (I used to have a prescription for some pills that helped my very painful periods)

The doctor tested a urine sample, found an infection, prescribed antibiotics!

It's been 3 months now and not a twinge, so may be worth a trip to the doctor if it continues.

The doctor did also do a pregnancy test: with a 3 month old baby I was terrified!
