My 12 wk old can't possibly be teething YET, can he??

Breastfeeding DS2 hasn't been the walk in the park that it was with DS1, but I thought we were getting there. He's putting on weight, does the right nappies etc, and my breasts are fine, so obviously everything works ok! Grin

But he's always been a fussy feeder: doesn't like my let-down, unlatches repeatedly, has a frankly rubbish latch (mouth like a letterbox! I have tried getting him to open more - he seems to do it gradually as he sucks), and he doesn't get on too well with feeding lying down, which is a pain, as he's in bed with me... But as I say, he's gaining well, he's generally very sunny and it's all coming out the other end.

And now he's started biting me! Sad I say 'biting' - obviously no teeth yet but he's suddenly clamping down sharply on my nipple towards the end of a feed and god, those gums are hard! Shock I'd think he was clamping down on over-abundant supply, but it's towards the end of a feed, and he's been dribbling a LOT recently. Could he really be teething? Do the normal 'cures' for biting work with a baby this young?

I think my 13 wo DD has started teething - apparently they can get pain when the teeth start moving in the gums, so way before they break through. She's drooling, chewing on things, screaming, struggling to feed sometimes, trying to suck just my nipple and clamping on me, having had no feeding issues for weeks.

All I've thought to do is take her off when she starts messing with the latch. I was wondering about manners too but think she's too young to teach!

Sorry, but my DD got her first tooth at 3 months. They were all through by 1 year so it's definately possible ;) I think I just used to take her off and it must have been ok cos I fed her to 13 months :) Good luck.

Mmm, that's what I wondered - teeth on the move but nowhere near erupting. Don't remember DS1 chomping me this early, but then it's all lost in the mists of time! Grin

Sorry to hear that you seem to be having the same sort of problems. Most of it sounds very familiar. You can't really say 'no!' sternly to a three month old, can you? Grin

Yowch, bitingfairy!

My brother got his first one at 4 months - my mum was distraught because she 'had' to stop bf in defence of her shredded nipples (and didn't have MN to help her). Now she's cackling at me when I complain that DS2 has chomped me again. Hmm
