How long do the fussy evenings and cluster feeding go on for?

Ds is 5 weeks old and I am just wondering when I will get to enjoy a warm dinner!? Is this one of. Te things that gets better after the magic 6 weeks or do I have a while to go yet? Tia

Think it entirely depends on the baby, some never have fussy evenings, some are stuck to you like glue. Take it you have read Dr Sears and Kellymom?

TBH though sometimes you just have to get on with it. With DC1 we had one of those swinging chairs which he loved and meant I oould eat a hot meal and with DC2 I just learnt to eat one handed or made DH take turns.

Good luck and I hope he settles down soon.

dd1 never cluster fed
dd2 started to go down for the evening at about 8pm by 10 weeks, and then 6.30-7pm by 13 weeks

keep at it, you're doing great. and a spoon works much better than a fork if you are eating one-handed.

I'll join you moulesfrites during your cold meals and one-handed typing - my DS is 5 weeks too (and he is my 3rd DC so you'd think I'd have it nailed by now Hmm) and he's still cluster-feeding and very much downstairs with us rather than fast asleep upstairs! Coos and gurgles at me in between as if that will melt my heart and forgive him for all the cold food and cold cups of tea >>it will, but don't tell him that

ds is 12 weeks and we no longer cluster feed :)

for me it was about 18 weeks.... sorry, but i think my DS was unusually late on that score :) 23 weeks now and asleep by about 8.

It was a gradual process and the first few months are all a bit of a haze now, but I think it was about 12 weeks. It certainly seemed endless at the time! I just used to get DH to cut up my dinner for me, I put it on the coffee table, put a muslin over DS and ate while feeding him. DS would not settle until midnight-1am for ages and ages, even if I tried going to bed with him much earlier. Now (7 months) he happily goes to sleep after a 10-15 minute feed at about 7pm, so there is hope!

reup · 02/03/2011 16:26

6-7 weeks for both of mine

DS stopped for a few weeks at about 7-8 weeks, and then we had another patch of cluster feeding around 12 weeks, and then again for about a fortnight at 18-19 weeks.
