Sore breast - feels like engorgement but breast is empty with no lumps

My left breast has been sore since yesterday. It is the same sort of pain I feel when it's engorged - but the breast is absolutely empty as has no lumps whatsoever. The nipple is fine (no pain, looking fine).

Yesterday the left breast was a bit sore due to excess milk, then DS fed and emptied it - however, the pain didn't go away (as usually happens).

DS is 10 months old, so BF and milk production are quite well established.

I've never had this so I'm slightly worried. Is it normal? Maybe I hurt the breast tissue during the night (sleeping in a bad position or something like that? Is it possible?)

Hope some more experienced BFer will be ablw to help me.

Thanks in advance

Is it hurting more or less than it did yesterday? It sounds like it might be a bit bruised. Is the pain constant? Does it depend on what position you're in?

NotQuiteCockney, thanks for helping.

A couple of hours ago I thought it was hurting more, but now I'm not sure... It hurts when I touch the breast - it doesn't depend on my position.

I get random breast pains sometimes that I can't explain but just go away on their own. It could be mild mastitis though, in which case just make sure it gets emptied fairly frequently and rest as much as you can until you feel better. Have a look here on kellymom for info about mastitis

marzipananimal, the kellymom link is great. I just found out I have a very mild temperature (37 C), so maybe I should go to bed and try to rest!
