I'd really like DS2 to drop the night feed...

DS2 is 10 months old.

Until this week, he was still having two feeds per night - one at around 11:30PM and another at 5AM.

He has just dropped the 11:30 PM feed. I started reducing the volume two weeks previously from 7 fl oz to 6, then 5 then 4) and he suddenly seemed to decide that he didn't want any at all.

However, he's now pushed the morning feed forward to around 3:30 AM and is showing no signs whatsoever that he's willing to reduce the volume. When I try he gets cross with me, whereas if he has the full 7 fl oz he settles himself back to sleep when I put him back in his cot.

According to my HV and NCSS, babies don't really need night feeds after 9 months. Any tips how to get him to drop this one?

He's weaned onto three big meals per day, plus snacks. He also has a bottle at 2PM and another at 7PM (so is now having 3 per day - at 3:30AM, 2PM and 7PM).

TIA.

We cut our daughter down by watering the milk. We did 90% milk +10% water, next night 80% milk + 20% water and so on. Once it got to about 10% milk after about a week or so she didn't bother waking up for it.

His night feeding is habit now - not necessity - so you need to stop it - he'll may cry for a few nights and then he'll get the hang of it.
