BF chaos - reassure me!

I'm BFing lovely 2wo DC2. Feeling fairly calm and laid back, but just need some reassurance that what we're doing is all normal. Combined fed DC1 so am not totally sure of myself! I know she's only 2wo but feeding all seems very chaotic. She tends to cluster feed - I'm not sure if there can possibly be that much in there! She wants to be on the breast most of the time and nods off almost immediately - but carries on feeding, slowly, while nodding. I've gone with it to try and get my supply up. She gained an ounce between day 5 and day 10. I don't know if I need to get a bit more disciplined about her staying awake and focusing on feeding, since DH returns to work soon and I need to be more available to DC1 and start getting out of the house again (or even just off the sofa!) Will she just naturally want to feed quicker and get on with life in the coming weeks? Does anyone have any thoughts?

two good resources: Dr Jack Newman and kellymom
this is quite normal but might be worth finding out about and watching for 'active swallowing' and also look up breast compression - this can be handy for speeding up feeds

HTH - got to go feed my ravenous hoard Grin

She will feed differently as she gets older so try not to worry about that.

Have you got a sling? I found mine really helpful with DC2 for doing things like playing with DC1 at playgroup, making the tea etc.

If you are going out she will probably sleep in the pushchair/sling/car on the way and you can just feed her when she gets there.

As for the breasts feeling empty, there is always milk in your bressts even if they feel empty to you.

What she is doing is perfectly normal and the fact she is gaining weight at day 5 is great. You are doing the a great job.
