Pure coincidence but there is an article/quiz about bottle feeding and this part of it....

The best way to feed forumla when you're out is with...

a)Ready to drink cartons
b) A prepared feed stored in your bag
c) the ingredients to make a fresh feed
d) with prepared feed in a cool bag.

Answer: A, C & D
Carton forumla is expensive but easy to use, "You can also take a sealed bottle, a flask of cooled boiled water and a serving of formula in a sterile container to mix when needed" says Health Visitor Nicola Joseph. Prepared feeds should be kept in a cool bag with an ice pack. Then warm it up when needed and use within four hours.

Now according to the info posted earlier this isnt the correct advice is it?! Is it any wonder that women like me are confused?

Well it would be wrong wouldn't it as formula needs making up with water at 70degree's (right?)

It is very confusing. Glad I'm bf tbh. Much less to think about.

Warm when needed and use within 4 hours! Shock Good God.

Bogeyface · 16/02/2011 23:49

That last bit about warm up and use within 4 hours is worded very badly isnt it?

Even before the new guidelines, it was "use within 4 hours, warm only when needed" but that read totally differently! I know what she means but a clueless first timer, we've all been there, might not understand that it doesnt mean you can heat it and then its still going to be ok 3.5 hours later!

Ironically, there is a questionnaire in the mag this month asking what you think of the magazine. One of the responses is (iirc) "ACCURATE"

hmm,.....I think not! It is very rare that I feel moved to contact a magazine about its content but on this occasion I think I might.

That's how I read it Bogeyface. Many would read it that way I'm sure.

RJandA · 17/02/2011 09:29

Me too. You should definitely complain, especially the bit about using cooled boiled water to make up the feed.

Foreverondiet · 17/02/2011 09:49

Def write in and complain - there are three options:

a) carton
b) carry hot water above 70c and powdered formula and then cool by holding bottle under cold tap
c) make up feed in advance, cool and carry with ice pack. warm up when needed.
