Bottle refusers - more girls than boys?

Just one of those things I was thinking about during the 4am feed.

My DD has been refusing a bottle since about 6 weeks (now 20 weeks). Before this she would take expressed BM three times a week from dad so that I could get some sleep occasionally.

Since I've been doing a lot of Internet searches for the non existent "fix" I have noticed that way more baby girls than baby boys seem to be refusers. So I was wondering if this is true or it is just a coincidence that those are the posts I've read.

So is your bottle refuser a girl or a boy. (just for fun)

DS absolutely refused milk from anything other than my breasts. He has never drunk milk since stopping BF.

So with DD (second child) I started trying with the odd bottle of expressed milk a bit earlier. She never got the hang of normal baby-bottle teats, but was fine with a soft spout from 4/5 months. So both 'bottle' refusers, but DD less so than DS.

Girl!

QueenOfProcrastination · 15/02/2011 17:34

Girl! Refused bottle from 12 weeks until 25 weeks. She's now taking EBM from a bottle (Hallelujah!) but it was a very hard slog getting to this point.

mamjo · 15/02/2011 18:38

Ooh QOP how did you do it?

Boy. we went cold turkey when he was about 9 months and after 6 hours he took it.

He's now 2 1/2 and I can't get him off the damn thing Grin

3 boys took to it fine, DD was thoroughly disgusted and would flap and wail and wag her head rather than have a bottle.

boy refuser
girl was fine (mixed fed)

Beamur · 15/02/2011 19:12

DD refused a bottle. Wouldn't even take EBM.

madwomanintheattic · 15/02/2011 19:12

boy refuser. two girls no problem.
(also went cold turkey after 10mos - the only fix)

thisisyesterday · 15/02/2011 19:15

i had 2 boy refusers

Allegrogirl · 15/02/2011 19:36

DD1 no problem DD2 refused until 14 weeks. Out of mums I have met boys seem far more likely to refuse. I guess that's a small sample though.
