Tell me about breast feeding a 10 month old

DD is asking for a feed all the time at the moment - she is eating solids three times a day, not huge amounts but fairly enthusiastically. When we are out and about she has formula in a beaker successfully (I do this as she gets too distracted to breastfeed in public).

When it's the two of us at home though she just wants to be latched on all the time! I was actually hoping she would naturally start to wind it down now! Plus I'm under the usual pressure from well-meaning relatives to stop bf-ing. Plus no one at my groups are still bf-ing 10 month olds!

Is this some kind of phase maybe? I have no one to talk to about this in real life so would love to hear how people find breastfeeding this age group and also when/ how breastfeeding ended for you.

Oh yes, and are there any actual benefits to DD if I breastfeed after she's 1? Never considered this but seem to be heading that way!

I can vaguely remember it Grin DD is 2.4 now and she still asks for it all the time if we're at home but if we're out somewhere then she tends to be more distracted and doesn't ask. Over Christmas she went down to only 2 feeds a day, I thought my boobs were going to explode!

If you're feeling a bit isolated by 'still' feeding a 10 mo then you could try going to a group, it's very common there to meet other mums feeding older babies and toddlers.

There are plenty of benefits to feeding babies over 12 months, this site has lots of useful info.

You don't have to decide now when you want your DD to wean, my target was always 6 months when DD was born but now I think I will let her self-wean... unless I change my mind! We'll see Grin
