14 month old almost yanking nipple off AT END OF FEED!

I am in so much pain, on one side only! My 14 month old has started taking my nipple with her when she finishes her feed, quite roughly. My nipples are bleeding and cracked, I have changed positioning but now have bite marks at the other side. I am starting to dread each feed from that side!

I am so upset I am close to stopping but this is my last baby and I really wanted to feed her til 2 at least.

Any ideas what can help us??

Hi,

It's been a few years (well 9) since I breastfed, but I do remember the pain well. My DS used to cling on with all his strength and I ended yanking him off. The only thing that helped a litte was to slip my little finger into the corner of his mouth to 'break the seal' so to speak. Either way you lasted longer than me so don't be hard on yourself if you feel you need to switch to a bottle - he will be fine!

Ouch. Have you tried taking her off just before she finishes the feed, watch for the signs she is about to finish? Easier said than done I know.

You could try pushing her face into your breast when she starts to do it. Counterintuitive but worked for me when DS was going through a bitey stage. Just means she will let go straight away because she can't breath. Sounds horrible but it isn't really!
