DS is 14months, still no periods

Hi,
Just wondering how many others out there are still waiting for their periods to rtn?
Before pregnancy I had regular periods, but they are yet to return.
Im BFing and realise this will be playing its part in them not returning, but my DD is now 14months so Im a little surprised that they havent returned.
Im now only B.feeding 2 - 3 times a day, but am feeding a couple of times at night too.
Anyone else in a similar position?

Enjoy the break. Mine came back when DS was 16 months. I was miffed!!!! I was breastfeeding about as much as you. Would happily have had them stay away longer.
I seem to recall reading on MN that when you consistently go longer than 4 hours between feeds, your periods will start up again... but I could be mistaken. Seems like that was about right for me.

My DS is a year and my periods haven't returned. I've had a teensy bit of spotting a couple of times recently and thought they might be coming back but both times it just went away after a day. I feed DS about 4 times in the day and only occasionally in the night if he just will not settle any other way.

Do you want them to come back? I kind of do now as am thinking of TTC again but I will not cut short DS's BFing to make myself more fertile.

Mine came back after 18 months with dc1. Dc2 is now 15 months old and no sign. Dc1 had been going longer than 4 hours between feeds for ages, and dc2 only really feeds now in the night. Just enjoy it, unless you're ready to start ttc again. If so, probably look at cutting down night feeds if possible.

DD is 9 months and I've had no period yet. Am hoping that it stays away until at least 16 months, as it did with the other two. Will feel very cheated if it doesn't Grin

My DS is only 15 weeks, but has been sleeping through the night for ages now (he did 7 hours a night at 3 weeks!) - he now has his last feed at about 8.30pm and then sleeps til 7am. Should my periods have come back then?? Absolutely no sign so far! He is a snacky baby in the day though, so he gets lots of small, frequent feeds in.

Bearcrumble · 13/02/2011 09:41

It totally depends, lurcherlover - my friend who had a baby same time as me and exclusively breast fed got her periods back at three months.

Lucky you on the sleeping through.

Stopped feeding DS at 12 months. Period came about two weeks later. Would have liked to have continued feeding but it was killing me fitting it in with work etc Sad

Went back to work when DS was 9 months so stopped daytime feeds then. When he was 12 months I stopped the bedtime BF and at 13 months the last one to go was the first feed in the morning. Even so my periods didn't come back until 15 months. I loved not having periods!

mousymouse · 13/02/2011 09:55

mine returned at 12 months, just after we started some sleep training as I couldn*t cope with work otherwise.
still bf at 14 months but with the monthly period-dip.

Apparently 14 months is the average, although it varies a lot either side. Kellymom has more info.

Still waiting for mine at 13 m. although I'm hoping that a just-resolved two-week nursing strike may have given my body the impetus to get going again.

PlasticLentilWeaver · 13/02/2011 13:12

Lucky you! Mine started at 8 months, the week I went back to work, despite multiple night feeds, and daytime expressing. Grr!

mrsgordonfreeman · 13/02/2011 21:39

14 months here although they have so far been sporadic. I was so annoyed though, I'd forgotten how annoying it is.
