Anyone switch from BF to cup feeding at 4M?

Hi All

My DD is a bottle refuser and I have decided its not worth the stress trying to get her to take one. The midwife said she is a good feeder with a strong suck so I am wondering if she might take a Tommee Tipee Explora cup. Has anyone else gone from breast straight to cup?

Thanks
Sarah

I also have a bottle refuser, I bought a Doidy cup this week and will be getting DH to try it at the weekend. DD is 18 weeks. I'll be interested in any responses you get.

Good luck

DS is 14 weeks and a bottle refuser! At the breastfeeding group I go to the midwife gave me a little Medela cup with a lip this week - it's tiny, only holds 10ml. She told me to try DS with it instead of a bottle, as apparently they're more likely to take a cup. It looks like the one the baby is using in this clip but I haven't tried it yet - will report back when I do!

Hi, DD has had 2 successful feeds from the Doidy cup now!!!! No good for putting her to sleep of course but does mean that I can now leave her for more than 2 hours when I need to.

I did try the lidded cups with spouts first but they didn't work for us.

Hi, I posted the same earlier! I've bought a tommee tippee explora cup this afternoon (which has, unfortunately, been refused) and also a plain cheap feeder cup with a free flowing spout which I'll have a go at tomorrow.

Like you, greenone12 trying to get DD to take a bottle isn't woth the stress - it leaves us both very very upset, so I'm watching this thread with interest too...

I did this with dd she takes a tome tippee cup -she can only manage the free flowing one with the spout that folds down. She can't drink much but has just turned 6 months old and has just started taking a bottle so there is hope

We haven't had any success with bottles (for DS1 or 2). Both went straight from breast to cup. I've had most success with the Doidy cup when they were young (under 12 months). DS1 took to the Tommy Tippee free flowing cup a bit later on (it was more convenient for avoiding spills).

I have also used the Medela cup which lurcherlover mentions. We used it in the really early days (3 days old with DS1) when he was jaundice and not bf. It was actually quite easy to use. You kind of get them to lap the milk with their tongue rather than pouring it in.

Hope you have some success soon.
