Reason for sticky green poo by 3 wk old breast fed baby?

My ds has been a good feeder since birth and his poos have been bright yellow, as breastfed baby poo tends to be. However, over the last 24 hours they have changed to green and sticky (sorry!) Does anyone know possible reasons for this? He is just over 3 weeks old.

It's fine and normal. Green poo is within the range of normal baby poo colours. Just keep on feeding him when he wants it and everything will be fine.

You have given birth to the incredible hulk.

Only kidding, it's normal sometimes. Don't worry. :)

MoonUnitAlpha · 30/01/2011 22:30

So long as he's happy I wouldn't worry, I think it's just one of those things with babies. People will tell you it's too much foremilk or a dairy allergy or something you're eating, but unless your baby is struggling then it's normal.

The joy of baby poo! Like Moon said, if he's not struggling ignore.

Thanks everyone :). Nice to know I have a normal little incredible hulk Grin

When I told my brother about Mumsnet, he asked "Oh, is that the sort of forum where you discuss the colour of your baby's poo?"
I had to tell him that it was.

deedee, did you ever think it would come to this?

MoonUnitAlpha · 31/01/2011 00:02

I know what you mean chipmonkey - half of mine and DP's conversations are about poo these days Hmm

deedee321 · 31/01/2011 02:02

I am hanging my head in shame....mumsnet's worst cliche Wink!!!

I believe the correct answer to "Why is my baby's poo green" is "Sometimes it just is, simply to freak you out."

If this is your first, wait til you get to weaning. [cackle] God, some of those nappies are really freaky.

chipmonkey · 31/01/2011 15:03

Oh God yes! Especially the things which come out looking identical to when they went in![boak]

this happened to my dc at around 5 weeks - i drove myself crazy worrying about foremilk/allergy issues. it lasted around a week and then just went back to normal. he's 5 month now and occasionally i get a racing green or army khaki nappy and don't bat an eye! it is indeed normal and just one of those things sent to send us poor sleep deprived frazzled mums into paranoid rabbit holes!
