Hi there - I've posted a couple of times requesting advice on how to stop breastfeeding my nearly four year old son, and received a lot of helpful information. We finally managed to stop breastfeeding over Christmas, and I wanted to share my experience with others. The link to my blog, where I describe the process, is below.

I hope it is helpful to others of you who might be struggling with the same challenge!

Thank you! It was definitely an interesting process to go through - and I am really glad we are through the other side!

I hope it continues to go smoothly for you RoRoMummy.

I know for sure that ds1 wouldn't have swapped bf for anything at that age!! He said he was going to stop on his 5th birthday and we stopped for 6 weeks and it was awful for him, so we went back to nursing. (I really quite enjoyed that 6 weeks though!!)

Thanks mawbroon! That does sound difficult - is he still nursing? I'm sure my little one will be cuddling the Titos for some time yet...but there's no milk left so he's given up trying to nurse!

Aw, cuddling Titos will give him great comfort I am sure. Smile

Yes, ds1 is still nursing. Plenty milk here as tandemmming with ds2. When I think about it, how did I ever expect him to be happy to stop when he sees ds2 feeding several times a day [doh]

They will probably self wean together at some point in 2017 Wink

Oh yes, I am sure that if I was still breastfeeding a sibling my son would have nothing of this "stopping Tito" business! In fact, if he could get any milk out he'd probably have a much harder time.

Smile at 2017...

great will check it out later. was kind of hoping to stop before school!

mawbroon · 27/01/2011 13:49

mercibucket - I had thought the same about hoping we were stopped before school, but for the first couple of weeks, he was really overwhelmed by school and nursing helped him to deal with it all.

definitely going to look at this, DS is 3y9m and I too want ot have stopped before school
