DS is now 6 weeks, and I just wanted to check a few things that are going on. He had posterior tongue tie divided two weeks ago and gradually the pain is improving. We seem to have hit a plateau though and he reverts to chomping at some feeds. I can put up with it as it is not really painful compared to before, but my nipples are still quite sensitive and sore.
The last few days he does seem more chompy again and also pulls back and tugs at my nipple or curls up his body and buries his head into the breast, kind of worrying at it quite a lot. I wondered if it was to do with my let down not coming quickly enough but he seems to do it when the milk is flowing too. He is being treated for thrush as he has a white tongue and I am using daktarin cream on me too, although I don't think I'm in enough pain for it to be thrush.
He is settled in himself and doing plenty of wees and huge yellow poos and putting weight on fine.
He also strongly prefers the right side and will have all his 'big' non-nibbly feeds on that side. The left side he tugs at a lot more and I know it lets down slower. He tends to only feed a bit on that side and never gets into continuous rythmical gulps like on the other side - he'll maybe swallow two times then suck at it again for quite a while so I'm not sure he's getting much that side.
He also has a nasty habit when he comes off the breast of yanking off with gums clamped and giving it a good tug/chew before letting go.
One other thing, at some feeds he really sucks in his breath and makes a hee-haw type sound like a donkey - just wondered if all this was normal or if there is some more fine tuning I can do to improve things?
