So which is the safest painkiller when breastfeeding a newborn?

With DD I had an episiotomy, and was in quite a lot of pain/discomfort afterwards for a good few days. Hospital gave me voltarol & paracetomol, but once I got home taking painkillers freaked me out a bit so I didn't bother - was too worried about how much came through in the BM & then into DD. In hindsight I think I probably made myself unnecessarily uncomfortable. DD was full term.
I've got a list of other stuff to try if I end up in the same boat this time around (lavender oil, witch hazel etc.), but I wondered if anyone knew which of the "safe" BF painkillers would be the best to use - i.e. which comes through the BM in the smallest amounts?
Thank you

Paracetamol is perfectly fine when breastfeeding.

Having breastfed two kids through infections resulting in numerous antibiotics, pain killers, solpadol, ibuprofen, paracetamol. I have taken what I had to with no problems to my babies whatsoever.

paracetemol is safest, there are questions marks over aspirin type pain killers while breastfeeding - I think it's to do with bloodthinning. Can't remember about ibuprofen, but I don't think I ever used it.

Paracetamol and ibruprofen are fine - though I also happily took the morphine and voltarol they gave me in the hospital too Grin

I've been googling - it looks like Paracetomol is excreted in amount "not clinically significant" so that sounds good. Can't find equiv. info for voltarol yet - that was good stuff Grin I know which ones are safe but its working out which one comes through the least IYSWIM.
Moon - I also remember the morphine being really quite fab Blush

I also had an episiotomy and asked my midwives and then the hv and my gp the same question... paracetamol is totally fine! I was also given voltarol in the hospital by the mw, so suspect its fine!!!

Paracetamol and Ibuprofen are fine.

Surely anything they prescribe in the hospital will be safe?

Afterwards, as other posters have said, paracetamol and ibuprofen fine, definitely not aspirin though because of a link to Reye's syndrome.
