MW has just told me that me eating dairy and chocolate then breastfeeding can make baby unsettled and give him a bad tummy, has anyone else found this?

I think eating things may trigger reactions in some babies but it is anecdotal more than proven I think

IME, nothing I ate made a difference to DD and believe me the amount of chocolate and tea I drank in the early days was huge

Is your baby unsettled?

Oh, if there is a proper lactose intolerance this should be investigated by a doctor

Lactose intolerance would mean breastmilk would make the baby ill anyway.

I guess it's possible that if they baby is allergic to cow's milk it could make a difference - similarly some people find caffeine or alcohol can effect the baby. Personally I've found nothing I eat or drink has any effect on the baby what so ever.

I think your midwife is mean: new mums need chocolate :).
