Blocked Montgomery's Tubercule - treatment?

ReshapeWhileDamp · 17/12/2010 22:49

I am 39 weeks pregnant and have some tenderness and pain in one of my breasts. I couldn't see any swelling, redness or heat there, but on further investigation, the pain seems to be emanating from two tubercules on my areola. Never had this before! The pain is quite deep in the breast but comes up into these two tubercules, if that makes sense?

What should I be doing? Hot compress? I did try a bit this evening, nothing happened and I'm dabbing some TCP on and trying again tomorrow. I'm really concerned that given I'm so close to giving birth now (I hope!) I might have a sore or infected nipple to start breastfeeding off with. Sad

(Apologies, have already posted this in Pregnancy but thought this was a more appropriate forum.)

Reshape, am really sorry but I have no idea what a Montgomery's Tubercule is.

Hopefully, this will bump it for you though.

Hope you are feeling a bit better this morning Xmas Smile

Sorry, it's those little bumps round your areola! Smile Thanks for bumping. It's still really sore, and I've been trying hot compresses.

Think I'll ask the MW.

Sounds like a good idea, if she hasn't got an answer I'd ring one of the bfing helplines.

Hope it feels better soon.
