Tips needed on winding a very impatient bottle fed baby

Hello all, first posting but am desperate! my 11 week old is now being bottle fed on formula. We are feeding on demand but the last couple of days of feeds have been rather challenging to say the least! Every time I break A away from the bottle for a wind he rages impatiently to get the bottle back. He flays his arms around and is impossible to wind in any position. I try to break him off the bottle when I hear him pause and have tried shoving a dummy in to distract him so can wind him, but it's not been too successful. Tried Dentinox a few weeks ago when we had similar episode and that did the trick then. Not tried it this week though. When I do give in and let him have the bottle back without a winding invariably he brings a bit up at the end, sometimes a lot! The rest of the time he is a smiley happy baby. Bit of a waffly message but any tips greatfully received!!

I wouldn't bother, if he brings some back up it doesn't matter too much. I'd just let him take as much as he wants and then wind him.

You don't have to wind him. Only if he wants to be winded. He could just be pausing for a rest, you like you do when eating!

Thanks both - I will just go with the flow. I guess I was just getting overly paranoid (as a new mum!) about him wolfing the whole lot down in one go and not being able to wind him part way through. Having said all this, we have just done a textbook feed :) I am learning v fast that no two days are the same!

Hi Surreyscooby, is it teething do you think? Have you got any of those teething ring things that you can chill? DD used to like that. When you DS pauses on the bottle I think that's normal, they just tend to rest a bit during the feed. If you watch BF babies they pause too, mid-feed. I used to just let DD come off the bottle on her own, or just take her off if the bottle was getting empty, before she took on air, she was bottle-fed a mix of expressed milk and formula as she never got the hang of the breast. I only used to wind her at the end of a feed, that seemed to get it up. I think it's usual for them to bring more up at the end of a bottle-feed as the flow is faster through a teat so if they over-fill themselves they get rid of the extra... I think??
