Fussy baby atfer curry - Diet tips

We had a terrible night of wind and fussiness and I felt so guilty when my MW told me it was probably because Id eaten a thai curry Xmas Blush and the baby was tasting it in my milk.

Ive hardly eaten anything really and Id so enjoyed that curry, but if its going to upset his little tummy, I will avoid!

Any tips on other foods that might upset them?

What does your MW think BF mothers in Thailand eat? Wink I was told to avoid all sorts of things until someone pointed out the obvious to me, that women around the world all BF and have totally different diets. If you have spicy food again and your DS is fussy again then you could try cutting it out but it could have been something else that was making him fuss. Some babies are affected by it more than others, so it seems.

Kellymom is a brilliant BF resource and has some diet tips here and there's a bit more info on Lactivist here. By all means avoid certain foods if you want to but if you really enjoyed it then I would at least give it another go before you give up the curry :)

I ate loads of of curries when BF, sometimes I did think they affected DC's but really didnt alter my diet and there was no lasting ill effects on them.

I have a theory that it helped developed their tastebuds for spicy foods ( completely my own 'fact')

My indian MIL used to get me to drink dill water, made by soaking dill seeds in boiling water, I thought it was a strange thing to do until I noted that the main ingredient in Gripe Water is dill oil.

I think life is too boring without spicy foods.

oh bad luck, i hope for your sake it was just a coincidence! i started off very gradually with spicy foods while BFing but have never noticed any ill effect in my baby, and now 5 months in am eating very hot curries again with no problem. i would definitely try again but maybe with something not too spicy, just to see if it does have an effect.

a month or so ago i bought some fresh orange juice and the first satsumas of the winter and my DS suddenly had green poo for a few days, so i wondered if i'd need to avoid citrus. however i think it was just coincidence as he was coming down with a cold, as have eaten plenty of citrus since then with no ill effects.
