Bf in public - what can I expect?

I live in Germany and have bf ds (4mo) in all sorts of likely and unlikely locations with never a nasty comment. Will be spending a week in England in Oct and will be out and about a lot and fully intend to bf wherever and whenever. I've read so much on MN about people getting bad reactions to bf in public and was wondering - am I really going to be tutted at and asked to sit in shop changing rooms?? And what will happen if I don't?

i've BF everywhere and on most forms of transport now too, i've done planes, trains, trams buses and whilest transferring from the airport ot the hotel last week i ended up feeding DD2 with her strapped in her car seat and me dangling a boob in her mouth, not to be recommend on the bumoy roads between naples and sorrento!!

i have never received a negative comment about b/f in public - go for it! if you are asked to move (highly unlikely i would say), simply don't - what can they do?

hth and have a great holiday

I've never had a problem and I'm 2 children on.

The only looks I've had have been encouraging ones from other women.

thanks again.
bk - wish it was a holiday! no such luck, it's a trip with students!

Just too add I never had any comments either just a few people blushing when they have been talking to me and then realised what i was doing. I usually BFed in cafes and tried to be fairly discrete but not hiding. I would never have sat in a toilet but did use babychanging areas with feeding areas.

Honestly I have bf all sorts of places too. On holiday in South of France the waitress in a restaurant was practically attached me as she thought it was excellent - bit strange -but nothing negative, ever! Best place? In park full of old ladies on benches feeding the birds, in the shade whilst looking at the fancy yachts in the harbour in Cannes. Don't worry.

Cold t*ts??

Seriously though, I never had any problems and got nothing but nice, 'awwww that's so nice to see' type looks. Was never made to feel embarrassed or awkward but I know some folk have which must be keck considering all the hormones jumping around

I did it for the first time today... just at my doctors surgery. It was mobbed and I had strangers in very close proximity to my boob. I was embarrassed and flustered but it didn't show as it was hot and everyone was red! I usually feed so easily but this time I had to get my giant 36J boob out, milk squirted everywhere (which it has NEVER done before!) and my DS fussed and spat out the boob a lot.

Having said all that - the only looks I got were smiles from the old ladies. And a bloke near me looked a bit uncomfortable but was more likely to move than say anything.

I don't think that you'd get a hard time in general. Good luck

FIT, just to add to general reassurance, I never had any critical comments either. Apart from one doctor who ushered me into the 'feeding room' at my surgery - which was just an empty room. Sat there for five minutes, got bored, thought 'stuff this' and went home!

Waiters and waitresses in Italian restaurants are particularly lovely IME although they really don't understand why you won't put the car seat on a chair (am v. fussy about potential for dropping babies as I am astoundingly clumsy).
