Is 3 weeks too young to mix breast and ebf?

My DD is just over 3 weeks and although bf was finally going ok, have as a result of a bad case of thrush started expressing and bottle feeding. I also had a very forceful letdown so she was very gassy and I was never sure she was getting enough from the breast. She's now taking about 90 ml per feed - is this enough? (she's about 7 llb 5 oz) I don't want to stop bf completely as I want to continue the closeness but she does seem less gassy now she's getting bottle fed. Will I be able to go back to the breast once the thrush clears up? I want to do what's best for her, but it is nice for DH to give her feeds during the day so I can nap. Any ideas anyone?

you can keep expressing whilst you have thrush. and carry on afterwards. you might like to breast feed during the night and let your DH bottle feed during the day.

whatever suits you and your DD.

I think it will probably be quite difficult to maintain your supply this early on - you'll need to express a lot (10+ times a day?) as the pump isn't as efficient as a baby. This is good for a calculation of how much expressed milk you'll need www.kellymom.com/bf/pumping/milkcalc.html

I did start mixing around this age as DD was incredibly sleepy and was not feeding effectively at the breast. I have now managed to go back to ebf except for ebm dream feed. I did have to supplement with FF for while when I didn't have enough expressed. I hand express which can be more effective than a pump and made sure I did extra expressing including middle of the night to maintain supply. So it is possible but it is hard work.

DD had 1 feed of EBM a day from this age. Having a lot can easily make things more difficult. 90ml sounds like plently for a feed though.
