Still breastfeeding... still no period... should I worry?

Hi, DS is 7 mths, started weaning about 6 weeks ago and he is on 2 meals a day.
Still taking 4-5 breastfeeds but sleeps from 7pm til 8-9am.

I have still not had a period.
Has anyone else remained period free for this long?
Or should I worry that I might be PG?
If I did a test would it work??

I went until 10 months before it returned. Presumably you are taking precautions - if not then yes, you could be pregnant. If you are it is unlikely and yes a test will still work.

Unsureaboutit · 18/09/2005 23:39

Yeah we are taking precautions
Feel a bit nervous as it was only one time without precautions that resulted in DS

I was going to say, DS is 9 months and still no period. I'm delighted about it!!!!!

bobbybob · 19/09/2005 00:48

Well if you are taking precautions I wouldn't worry. 7 months is totally normal.

I got my period back exactly 4 weeks after going from 4 feeds a day to 3. DD was about 8 months by that time. I think that it has nothing to do with whether your child is on solids or not and everything to do with how often you feed your baby.
It may be different for other people but for me it was definitely that move down from 4 to 3 feeds.

nikkinoo · 19/09/2005 02:27

Dont wory i fed DD until 18 months old and had no period at all as soon as I stopped they returned quite full on (must say i rather liked not having them)

bandbsmum · 19/09/2005 09:37

I was just about to start a thread about this and came across this one. My dd is 10.5 months and only having 2 bf's a day (2 formula for last 2 weeks after she bit me!!), and I too was getting worried I may be pg as they returned after 9 months with ds, and I've been very emotional lately, but suppose that may be a sign that they'll be starting again soon I suppose? I am taking the mini pill, but may still do a test just to be 100%. I'd be devastated if I am!!

i breast fed my dd2 till she was 18 months and my periods didnt return till she was only on 2 feeds a day and they returned very irregular and still are after 3 years...dont worry this only causes lactating problems, get the coil fitted then you will be safe from any whoopsies...

I'm trying to persuade dh to have the snip, as I definitely don't want any more, but he doesn't seem keen!!

mummysmilk · 19/09/2005 10:50

Mine returned when DS was 8 months

Pob71 · 19/09/2005 13:05

Still nothing at 8.5 months.

spidermama · 19/09/2005 13:07

My ds is nearly 8 months and I've just started this morning.

Bubblesmum · 19/09/2005 16:38

My ds is 10 mo and still no sign of a period for me (which I am really pleased about). He generally sleeps from about 7.30pm or 8pm until about 5.30 (so I'm not sure if that counts as still night feeding him... which I think delays the return of periods).

bandbsmum · 20/09/2005 14:09

Just to reassure you "Unsureaboutit", I've just done a pg test and it was negative - big sigh of relief!

DissLocated · 20/09/2005 14:12

Mine didn't come back til dd was 13mo and I swopped back to the normal pill from the mini pill.

Unsureaboutit · 20/09/2005 18:30

Thanks for the feedback everyone
I might do a test next week - I have an op coming up and want to be on the safe side

Mine returned at 7 1/2 months, then i only had one more, 5 weeks later. Then nothing. Dh said " I think you are pregnant". And I was despite the fact that we were using contraception. And I am very old. And I have an underactive thyroid which supposedly makes it hard to conceive. And did I mention that we hardly ever BD coz I am so exhausted, due to thyroid problem, small baby and toddler.

So beware, it does happen

bandbsmum · 28/09/2005 11:12

Well, after doing a test last week, mind returned last night! I haven't missed it!

eidsvold · 04/10/2005 07:10

Mine has just returned and dd2 is 10 1/2 months old......
