BF jaundice in 2 month old

DD is almost 2 months and is still slightly jaundiced around her face. She definitely isn't pink like other babies at the BF group i go to.
My mum keeps saying I should give her water to get rid of it. I think I should just leave her to get rid of it naturally?

Anybody else had this with thier DC?

Yes my DS2 had it for ages. Nothing to worry about if she is putting on weight well, alert etc and only a tiny bit yellow.

Water will do absolutely nothing to get rid oof it so you can safely ignore that advice!

Yes, DS had it for at least 4 months, he had to have blood tests to rule out other causes but as they were normal we were told not to worry about it; I think feeding lots and exposure to sun light e.g. through a window with clothes off, was advised. I couldn't see it much at the time, but I look back at photos now and he looks very yellow.

Thanks :-) she's doing great weight wise etc.

Lynzjam has she had blood done to check it is def bm jaundice. If so don't worry at all and carry on.
If these have not been done ask for them asap, is her poo normal coloured?

Lynzjam · 07/11/2010 21:43

She had the heel prick when she was few days old. Did that cover it I wonder?

Poo can range from yellow korma colour to slightly orange with the occasional sticky greenish poo. Mostly korma sauce.
She's getting her jags this week so could mention to doc about it!

Thanks for comments guys.

You really should pop her to the GP to get her checked. I hope all is well.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 07/11/2010 21:46

Don't think heel prick would cover jaundice. DS was still yellow at 4 weeks when we saw HV and she referred us to a prolonged jaundice clinic at the hosp just to make sure it wasn't anything more sinister (it wasn't)

OK will definitely speak to doctor about it. I'm sure she is fine as she seems a healthy happy baby to me. Will double check though. Ta x

Lynzjam she didn't by any chance have antibiotics at birth did she? I only ask as DS did and I think that had a bearing on how long the jaundice took to clear.

Lynzjam · 07/11/2010 22:58

Nope, no antibiotics. I haven't taken any either.....?

all those colours are fine, whitish poos are the ones that would noy be ok.
