I am excited I think I have done a little tiny bit towards normalising / raising the profile of breastfeeding

Firstly, no axe to grind re the great debate.

But I am pleased as I am involved in writing a book for schools and one of the sections is a bit on 'characteristics of mammals'. You'll know that one of the characteristics is 'suckle their young' and I have managed to get approval for a gorgeous pic of delicious breastfeeding baby. Book aimed at 14-16 year olds.

Fantastic - I think sometimes children don't make the connection that we are mammals just like bats, whales and foxes.

I am really it was approved - and it really is a lovely pic.

Well done highlighterpen, my DH is a primary school teacher and has had discussions about breastfeeding with the children in a few different contexts (not just living and growing), of which I am very proud! Schools have a great role to play in normalising the whole thing.

I love the bit in politics of bf when she talks about people compareing bf to being like a cow, because it is often peoples only experience of lactation. She points out that you never hear people liken themselves to tigers, which of course suckle their young, and people don't suggest that you need to be upside down to bf, cause that's how bats do it!
