Coca cola in bottle!!!

Roxswood · 14/09/2005 21:19

I just saw this out today! A mother pouring coke from her can into the baby's bottle then giving it to him in his pram.
Am I the only one who's jaw is touching the floor at this?
The baby can't have been more than twelve months!

at the smoking 4 year old!!!

Would I judge? Er...yes. 'fraid so!

NotQuiteCockney · 14/09/2005 21:51

I can understand how people's kids end up smoking at 12 or whatever, and there was nothing they could do about it. (Ok, I'm locking up my kids if they do that, but still ...)

But how on earth does a four year old manage to smoke without your consent? Gah.

LIZS · 14/09/2005 21:55

4yr old + matches /lighter, don't even want to think about it

bran · 14/09/2005 21:56

Did I tell you that NQC, or was it someone else? My ds had a sip from an unguarded can at his foster family's (before he came to us) and now I can drink Diet Coke without too much hassle, but he will do absolutely anything to get his hands on a can of Pepsi Max.

It's funny that this thread came up, I was having a picnic with some friends (one of whom is a mnetter) in the park and ds was having great fun pretending to drink from my bottle of Diet Coke with the cap very firmly screwed on. I said to my friend that I wouldn't be surprised if there was a thread by someone shocked that a mother would let her child swig Coke. Mumsnetters are always watching you know.

bran · 14/09/2005 21:56

Oh no, it wasn't me NQC, my ds has never tasted spam (I bet he would like it though, he's a protein fiend).

hunkermunker · 14/09/2005 21:59

LOL, Bran! Yes, be afraid...be very afraid...for if you sin, there will be a thread about you this evening! PMSL!

Re the smoking child, he's on {http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/tv/killing_the_kids.shtml\this programme}

NotQuiteCockney · 14/09/2005 22:00

bran, your DS is a bit older, at least though! And nobody thinks him drinking Pepsi is a good idea! This baby's dad gave him Pepsi!

And this baby really only liked to eat a mix of mashed potato (hopefully not smash?), spam, and baked beans.

NotQuiteCockney · 14/09/2005 22:01

I think most people's kids would like spam. I know DS1 loves any form of processed meat he's been offered ... well, except hot dogs, he's not been impressed with those!

BusyBusyBee · 14/09/2005 22:02

I once saw a child aged 3 drink coke from a bottle in a doctors waiting room of all places!

Roxswood · 14/09/2005 22:28

at the smoking child!

Its incredibly scary the way some people treat their children, I once saw a mother leaning down to fasten her little boys coat with a cigarette stuck in her mouth, the little boy bent his head forwards and got burnt on the forehead, she promptly smacked him and yelled at him for being so stupid as to get himself burnt!
I just didn't know what to do with myself! I wanted to call the police!

hunkermunker · 14/09/2005 22:29

I'd have been tempted to go and burn the silly cow on the forehead myself

Not judgementally, you understand.

chipmonkey · 14/09/2005 22:46

Roxswook, this wasn't at Burger King in Blanchardstown by any chance? Because I saw that very spectacle yesterday too! And........ she didn't even have the decency to put a Bacardi in!

SleepySuzy · 14/09/2005 22:49

MMM, Spam with a full English!

Cadmum · 15/09/2005 17:32

I am weak! Just having this on the threads I am on keeps reminding me of the coke in my fridge. Bought it for a friend who is addicted but she only drank one bottle so now there is still one there. I think I am off to drink it. (Ashamed emoticon) Should I share it with my 3 year old so I can feel even worseÈ

Gem13 · 15/09/2005 17:40

I love it too.

I have always said I could be a tee total vegan but I would still drink Coke. It is my vice.

Haven't had any for ages as I'm (early) pregnant . Am looking forward to the days when the baby hasn't kicked much and I have to have a can.

My children haven't tasted its evil delights yet though. I was once on a long haul flight when the family next to us gave their less than 2 year old a whole Coke can to drink. I had to spend the next 10 hours trying not to stare to see if they were a 'bad' family or not .

Gem13 · 15/09/2005 17:40

I really want one now!

fireflyfairy2 · 15/09/2005 17:42

Snap!! I saw one lady at the zoo give her young baby a bottle of coke too.. same thing, I SAW her pour it from her bottle into his.. I was as shocked as anything!! She then looked at me and grinned... I was disgusted... but what could I say.. It's not my child she was feeding it to!!

Cadmum · 15/09/2005 18:02

Gem, I am pg too... (15 weeks tomorrow) Have not opened the bottle yet.

GeraldGiraffe · 15/09/2005 19:52

gem- being a teetotal vegan wouldn't stop you drinking coke anyway

starshaker · 15/09/2005 20:08

i have a friend whos dd is 2 days older than my dd and her dp gives the baby (5 months) coke out a can

Eaney · 15/09/2005 20:10

I gave Diet Coke up 16 months ago. I still crave it. Just reading this thread has made my mouth water. It is sooooooo addictive. I have never given it to DS nor do I intend to.

I don't feel any different not drinking it but for anything to have that hold over you is not good.

starshaker · 15/09/2005 20:10

am i the only 1 i really dont like the taste love cola bottles though

compo · 15/09/2005 20:18

no you're not Starshaker - I hate coke/cola/pepsi etc - urgh

Cadmum · 15/09/2005 20:45

The sad thing is that I don?t think I honestly like the flavour either. I think that I long to have it because it was SO forbidden when I was a child. For that very reason I try not to make such a production about any food or drink. Thankfully we seldom have it in the house and I don?t allow the children to have it but I suggest alternatives like sprite or ginger ale on the rare occasion where fizzy drinks are on offer.

nutcracker · 15/09/2005 20:48

The 5 yr old next door still has coke and tea in a bottle.
