Is this a blocked duct? It really hurts to feed :-(

Hi

I think I may have a blocked milk duct. My boob is slightly hard on the inside and very tender. It really hurts on the end of the nipple when feeding my 10 wk old DS. And looking in the mirror I can see a small white dot where the pain is on the nipple. This is my DS's favourite boob as its bigger. I've only noticed this tonight and have continued to feed (whilst grimacing)and massaging.

Any other tips on what to do as it REALLY hurts :(

Brilliant advice here. Blocked ducts are just miserable.

The white bit could be a tiny milk blister also called a bleb, with the milk duct blocked behind it and the milk backing up causing the tenderness. The pain with a bleb is usually in a really identifiable "just right THERE" place on the nipple and an excruciating sharp pain. Horrid. Ouch!

Warmth, ibuprofen and clearing the blackage might all help. Take care.

Ow, I hate getting milk blisters and blockages, so painful! I get in a warm bath if I get one, and lie on my front, so boobs are submerged, then try and massage/clear the blockage.

Excellent advice on that link ShowOf, thanks very much. Its healed now, I did the massaging and continued feeding and its sorted itself out. It was sooooooo painful though. I know exactly what you mean Brollyflower, it was a very precise pain.
Thank god its gone :)
