12 week old refusing to take a bottle. Want to be able to leave him with my parents from time to time. Help!

Very common problem and usually ends up an expensive one when trying lots of diff bottles and teats. Try slow flow beaker. Or cheek to breast with bottle etc but I'm afraid breast feeding is a huge commitment and I think u might just have to accept that for the next 12 wks or so u cant leave baby.

no easy answer. can try different bottles, eg breastflow ones, but some BF will not take one ever. my DN aged 14 months couldn't be left until he would drink water from a beaker when he was 1. he still will not take milk from anything other than breast.

Have you tried someone else giving it, perhaps you even leaving the room? Sometimes they will take it from ohers but not mummy because they know you have the real thing :)

Back to work in april so he'll have to learn. I'm not looking to stop breastfeeding just give a bottle from time to time. He's taken 5oz yesterday but it was after a lot of screaming!

I think if the baby is hungry enough they will take a bottle.....my baby is the same....wont take a bottle if im here....however one day i went out and took older child left baby at home with Dad....he woke up after a nap and took a full bottle of milk from him...and it was an Avent one too....

dd didn't take any bottles from dh or me. however she's just started nursery and takes a bottle of formula a day without problems. we use the avent magic cup soft beakers on normal avent bottles as she does not like normal bottle teats.

The only way DS has ever taken a bottle of EBM was just after he'd woken up from a nap, so was still half asleep.

Have had this problem with both my DDs. With DD1 I just accepted that she would only ever be bf (and she was til she was 2 years old). DD2 is now nearly 7 months old, and tbh I need a break (have been either pregnant or bfing - or both - for nearly 4 years). So I am finding that perseverance is the key. I give her a bottle at the same time every day. Initially she fought against it; now she readily accepts it.

It takes time and commitment, but eventually you should get there.

I've never been able to get my DS to take a bottle :( he's 6 months; I've tried every bottle, teat (even an expensive special needs one), I've tried warm milk, cold milk, ebm, formula, giving him a bottle when he's not hungry, giving him a bottle when he's hungry, holding out and refusing boob (lasted 7 hours) before I couldn't take the guilt anymore, giving him a bottle when he's asleep, getting DH to give him a bottle.

The only success I've had is 2 oz from a sippy cup, if you've tried everything then a cup might work?
