9 wk old not pooed today... is it ok??

My gorgeous 9 wk old ds is exclusively bf and usually has 2-3 poos a day but today he hasn't had any. He seems ok in himself, smiley and giggley. Could he be constipated? Should I be concerned?

Pls help xx

If he seems fine in himself I wouldn't worry. Bf babies sometimes go a few days between poos. My DD sometimes goes 10 days. Just prepare yourself for a huge one tomorrow!

I second greensnail - prepare for a poo-splosion tomorrow!

HollyFP · 16/10/2010 22:19

My DD did this around 6 weeks, it was just her system getting more mature. She didn't poo for 5 days, but now goes once a day. If it lasts longer than a few days maybe see your gp just in case the lo needs a hand. Hopefully your ds will be fine though!

Dd1 did this at about the same age, gp said it was because bf babies are getting exactly what they need, leaving no waste! But expect a stinky nappy soon!

This is very normal. To tell whether a baby is constipated (as with an adult tbh), you need to look at the consistency of the poo when it comes. If it's little hard balls, he's constipated. If it's soft and fairly loose, that's a normal BF poo.

my dd is 9 weeks and often goes 2-3 daysx

I agree w what everybody else has said. My dd used to poo a few times a day but now only goes 2-3 times per week. She hasn't pooed since Tuesday and I'm not fussed, beyond hoping that the poo explosion doesn't happen when I take her swimming this pm.
If your baby is happy in himself then don't worry. If he goes much over a week I'd phone your HV just to put your mind at ease.

DD's record at that age was 12 days. Unless he is showing signs of discomfort, don't worry.

Thanks every one :)

As it turns out the little fella definitely not constipated!! Talk about poo-explosion!! Ha ha, lucky for me I was in the shower so it was DP who got to deal with it :o
