Apparently it should be out of a cup ... If they drink everything (milk, juice etc) from a bottle only then yes it is bad for their teeth.
But DD is 19 months and has two bottles of milk a day. All other drinks are from a cup.
My DS drank his bedtime milk from a bottle till he was 3. His teeth are fine (he is nearly 6).

she has her water out of a cup. so do you think i should just leave her with her milk in a bottle

my dd is nearly a year and only drinks her milk from a bottle, everything else from a cup. I'd rather she used a cup for milk too but when I give it to her in a cup she hardly drinks anything so it's a bit of a toss up between her drinking enough milk, or her using a cup for all her drinks. It's a bit of a dilemma.

How many bottles does she have a day?

ParisMum · 08/09/2005 10:45

mine has two large ones and then a small one mid-afternoon

Yes, when my DD was 12 months she still had 3 bottles a day. I can't remember when we dropped the mid afternoon one ... I think it was when I got fed up with waking her from her nap to have her milk before legging it up to school to pick up DS ... so probably around 14/15 months.

DD is 15 months. Has milk morning and night from a cup. 7oz each time and drains it in seconds. When she was about 10 months I started giving her the daytime milk she was still having then in a cup and then the morning and finally at about 1 the bedtime milk.

bozza, what cup are you using.
i dont really know which one to give her. she has her water in a cheap tommee tippee thing the now. its not a non drip one. it has detachable lid and hard spout. it was about £2 out of tescos

She has it out of an Avent Magic Cup. At first I took the valve out so it flowed easily but as she got the hang of it she now has the valve in. If I were you I would maybe consider milk in a cup in the daytime at first and leave the am/pm ones in the bottle until she gets used to the idea.

Try the Tommee Tippee bottle to cup trainer, that's what I've just started using for my dd who I'm trying to stop bfing. She would never take a bottle, but has had her afternoon milk from this every day for a week now. It has a soft spout, and the sucking action needed is similar to using a teat. Think it's meant to make the transion from bottle to cup easier.
