atm ds goes down at 7 having fed and then wakes for a feed at 10 or 11. I don't feed him til he grunts a bit for a bit, but he doesn't fully wake.

then he'll do a 3 hours stint til 1 or 2am...however then he will start straining and being restless...he cries and I try to feed him again two hours later, he isn't totally hungry but needs to suck as he is windy/pooing. i change him a couple of times a night (up to 4 times)...basically from 4am onwards he is restless and although we can get an hour or so in, rest of the time i'm feeding him, and have taken to taking him into bed with me from about 5am or so just to try to settle him (he is in cot next to bed normally).

he won't take a dummy, and i know that he can go 5 hours between feeds as he's done it on his own...i'd really like to space the feeds to 3 or 4 hours so that he does actually feed really well.

so before i do something stupid like give him water at night, any tips or thoughts? will this stop on it's own, or is it that i'm not feeding enough through the day (every 3 hours or so, but sometimes he sleeps a 4 hours stint in the day and is this the problem?)

he is 8 weeks old today.

any thoughts gratefully received.

x

does he have a bath at night so the warmth can try and help his tummy?
tummy time? massaging tummy?
what position does he sleep in? Have you tried side or tummy (even though not recommend...?) mine were very gassy on their backs but as soon as I put them on their tummies, they slept for 5 - 6 hours at a time at night!

My 3 and a half week year old has basically the same pattern as yours. From 4/5am onwards all I hear is gassy grumbling and i feed him on and off until 7. I am wondering if its a vicious cycle og him feeding on and off from 4am and then him not being hungry enough at the 7am feed.

Would love to know any suggestions to help with this problem.

He'll grow out of it.

Are you feeding every 3 hours a day because that's when you think you should be feeding, or because that's when he's demanding it?

You definitely shouldn't be giving an 8 week old baby water.
