8 week growth spurt in BF baby

My DS has suddenly gone from a really happy, smiling, chatty baby who feeds really effectively every 3.5 hours to a crabby, unsmiling little monster who won't look me in the eye and screams if I take him off the breast. He is not feeding as well as he was as he keeps nodding off leaving me trapped underneath him.

Is this a growth spurt and how long can I expect it to last? I'm feeling very low and find it really hard being stuck at home all day with an unhappy baby. It's been like this for about 72 hours but getting worse each day. I'm going to a BF clinic on Tuesday but it would be great to hear others' experiences in the meantime.

It does sound like it could be a growth spurt. Kellymom has some info.

'Unsettledness' is supposed to peak in many babies around 6-8 weeks irrespective of growth spurts / feeding patterns so hopefully once this is past, it should really improve.

Do you have a decent sling you can feed in so at least you can get out & about or at least have your hands free?

My DS didn't have an 8 week spurt, but did have a 6 week one which lasted a week and a half which I think is longer than most spurts would be.
