Depends on your parenting style. Is he on solids.

If it was my DC I would prepare some bottles of water and if it was less than 3 -4 hours in the night i (or probably DH) would feed him the water and the try and settle him.

It might be a bad night with lots of wakings but hopefully the next day he'd be hungry in the day so he'd feed well and not be hungry that night so break the cycle.

Yes on solids...am going to try the water tonight. Wish me luck! I really don't know what else to do...ditched the dummy last month and now wish i hadn;t!!!!

Thank you

You just need to stop feeding him at night!!! Might take one night of hell but then he will realise that night is for sleeping and feeding for during the day!! Good luck Smile

but i can't stand screaming and he'll wake the others up!!!

It's called reverse cycling, link: www.kellymom.com/bf/normal/reverse-cycling.html

Instead of stopping feeding at night and then feeding him the next day, you need to do it the other way around - tank up in the day to help him break the cycle at night. Offer as often as possible in the day time, going into a darkened room away from noise and lights if possible. Make sure you offer the breast BEFORE solids.

Thanks jem last night was truely awful...awake every hour from midnight! Think he was overtired and has a cold too so i fed him on demand and stuck him in bed with me by 4am

Will keep offering the boob all day today and see what happens. Perhaps this is becoming as much of a sleep problem than feeding problem

Other idea... how are his poos? My DD is v. wakeful in the night before a big poo is due. Has he been pooing OK since you started solids?

littlemissindecisive · 17/09/2010 15:51

poos ok....have managed to get him to feed (from me)more today and sleep better so fingers crossed. Perhaps he's being a cheeky monkey and trying to tell me he doesn't want bottles Smile
