I lost all pregnancy weight within 6 weeks of DD being born and then another stone 8 weeks after that , don't think it was breastfeeding but that I wasn't working in office surrounded by free food samples.

Have put weight on since stopping breastfeeding but thats bump number 2, boobs deflated for a few months though but in the past month they have become alive again.

Wallace · 05/09/2005 20:12

Yes..lost weight much faster when I stopped breastfeeding. Health Visitor said this is because while you are breastfeeding your body holds onto excess fat to make milk in case of famine etc, so when you stop feeding, the fat can go!

QueenOfQuotes · 05/09/2005 20:14

ahh but Dinny - it all back fired slightly - went from 7st - 12st during pg with DS1 and

Got myself all the way back down to about 9st 2lbs......and fell pg again - thankfully only went up to around the 11st marker that time, and it all dropped off pretty quickly. Now hovering around the 9st 4lb marker - with an aim (HAHAHAHAHAHA) of reaching around 8st sometime between now and the next blue moon

dinny · 05/09/2005 20:28

you too, Lockets

these posts are giving me hope!

Yup, lost the lot after stopping b/f and actually was thinner than before pregnancy. I lost about 10lbs in a few weeks. I ate loads when b/f and stuck at 9 stone 10, despite my best efforts in the gym etc. Stopped b/f and it just fell off without any effort. WEIRD.

dinny · 05/09/2005 20:36

yippee, Eldestgirl! fab! I need to lose 2 flipping stone! obviously, it will just all drop off when ds stops feeding and I won't have to diet or exercise

how long did you breastfeed for?

OP posts:
Enid · 05/09/2005 20:38

yes

a stone

dinny · 05/09/2005 20:43

did it just melt away without doing anything, Enid?

breastfed DS2 for about 13 months. Could not lose and ounce while I was feeding him until he went onto solids when I lost half a stone without even trying. When I gave up completely I lost another stone in about 3 months (put it back on again later but that's another story )

dinny · 05/09/2005 20:46

come to think of it, Tommy, I lost weight without trying when ds started solids. really hope I follow suit when ds eventually stops.

I put on lots of weight when b/f both of mine, prob about 2 stone if not more and then lost about a stone fairly easily each time after stopping, the rest took a bit longer and a bit more effort. Still got bit more to go though but i am back to pre pg weight now, ds is 2 mind so its taken a while.

My shape has changed alot though, bellys much saggier than before although i guess it would be and my boobs are smaller than they've ever been which im not happy about, they were the only bit of my body i liked and now they've gone!

Caligula · 05/09/2005 21:30

Yes. I stopped kidding myself that as I was supposedly using 500 more calories per day more than normal, that meant I could eat 2000 more calories per day more than normal, so I stopped stuffing my face with pastries, chocolate eclairs, wine, hot chocolate, Steak au poivre, etc.

And I also stopped making the excuse that if I ever got off my arse and waddled towards the cake shop, my milk would turn sour from so much exertion, so best to stay put on the sofa.

Tommy · 05/09/2005 21:44

After about 6m I had gone on weight watchers and I was really sticking to it so wasn't using the breastfedeing thing as an excuse to pig out - I'm sure that some women lose it because of breastfeeding and some just have to wait til they finish - it's just the way you're made and not sure you can do anything about it!

dinny · 07/09/2005 08:21

I've just started ww, Tommy - am feeling v pleased with self as lost 5lb last week!

I had put on 4 1/2 stone through pregnancy and steadily lost about 1/2 stone a month until I stopped breatsfeeding and then the rest just fell off...it really looked like more too as my breats were massive when I breastfed (I am fairly well-endowed anyway) and when they went back to normal it really helped "even out" my proportions....so yes, I lost about 1 stone but it looked about 2!
I know lots of women who stopped breastfeeding because they were fed up with not being able to shift the weight quickly enough.
