I think my nearly 10mo DS is trying to give up his 2pm milkfeed, he's really not interested - is this too soon or should I just follow him?

My daughter was about 12 months.

My son still hasn't cut down to morning and evening, and he is 2 1/2 yrs old.

So there's no "right" or recommended age?
I hate it when there are no rules!! Argh!!

Mine dropped to morning and evening only at 10 months, Odysseus. I 'helped' a bit because I was going back to work, but she was quite happy not to bother. I worried because she didn't take any milk of any kind from a beaker or bottle, but we muddled through with yoghurts and cheese until she decided that cows milk in a beaker was OK after all (about 12 months IIRC).

DD is 13 months and still having 3 or 4 breasfeed each day. However I was just wondering the same than you ODYSSEUS but I can see that they will stop when they are ready. Hopefully it will be sometime soon as I am getting a bit tired. Sometimes I feel like a cow Smile.

However I have to say that breastfeeding at the moment is very helpful as when DD falls mummy's milk heals everything Grin

9 months. I was going back to work. We gave up at 10 months by mutual consent, he just wasn't that into me! Grin

My DS was just 8mo and was 6 weeks prem as well. It was really clear he wanted to drop his feeds - demonstrated by a total lack of interest at the chosen feed and usually the one after. Dropping one feed led to far better feeding at the others.

He's 9mo now and quite happy - feeds really well at 7am and 7pm and I give him cows milk with his man sized portion of Ready Brek in the morning and yoghurt and cheese at tea time. He's showing no signs yet of wanting to drop his two remaining feeds.

According to my mum I had self weaned entirely by 9mo.
