aching breast before baby even born - 2 weeks to go...

Have also posted this in Pregnancy thread...
Don't remember having this before with no. 1, but have just started getting very uncomfortable aching breast (one worse than other). Am 38 weeks tomorrow.
Is this normal body gearing up? Had thrush badly first time and am terrified of getting it again before I've even started BF.
Help.

Can't remember feeling like that. Hopefully thre will be someone along here soon with either experience to training......

Since I posted this earlier, its got worse. Both breasts are sensitive, one worse than other and now there is a almost a red rash round the outside of the areola. It feels almost like mastitis, but since I'm not actually lactating, is that even possible?

I don't know but I guess it would be possible, I believe you can get mastitis even when you have stopped bf. You need to see a doctor urgently. For now, I would act like it is mastitis ie hot cloths, hot baths, savoy cabbage leaves etc. Do you have an out of hours gp service? Hope you get sorted soon.

Thanks both of you. I think it is mastitis. Don't want to go to docs as don't want antibiotics, but am treating homeopathically...

Please go to the doctors. You can get a prescription for the ABs and get them just in case the homeopathy does not work. I know you are scared of getting thrush but you don't want to get an abscess now. Hope you start to feel better soon.
