5mo goes through the night on EBM but not formula? How?!

I have always given 5mo BF DS a bottle before bed at 7pm. It's always been EBM but I need to start moving him over to formula for going back to work and, now he takes a full 8oz, expressing enough every day is getting a bit difficult! He sleeps through 7 til 7 but, in the last week he's had formula and can 'only' make it to 3am. How is that possible? I thought babies went longer between feeds on formula than BF?

It's an old wives take that ff babies sleep better. But that's not to say bf sleep better...not to my knowledge any way! Maybe some one will be along to tell you soon...i await with interest! I have heard that bm, especially that produced in the evenings, has soporific qualities. But that too could be an old wives tale! Seems to me they all just do what their own thing, bf, ff whatever!

you could try pumping twice. Pop the pump in a food bag in the fridge inbetween. It doesn't need to be re sterilised so not that much faff. When are you going back to work? It might be that your ds doesn't need milk during the day by then and then you could skip the formula faff. Smile

When are you going back to work?

Maybe the formula is upsetting his tummy a bit? Maybe it's just coincidence, as some time between 4-6 months there's a growth spurt and sleep regression anyway...
