TMI? Spot on nipple & pain in breast

Anyone know or have experience?
Had a spot on end of my nipple, which has come & gone for last 3 months, along with stabbing pain in my breast, which at times is so bad I cant sleep for it. I went to see doc, she said it was a blocked duct, was not infected and would clear up on it's own.
That was 2 months ago now, and it's still ruddy painfull.
Any ideas what else it could be?
It doesn't really hurt while I'm feeding, but kicks in big style about 5 mins after.

Sockmonkey, there will be more experienced people along in a bit, I hope, to help. In the meantime, it does sound like a blockage, possibly combined with a low-lying infection.

How old is your baby? I experienced something similar when I started to wean - mastitis and repeated blocked ducts - and it was because my DS was varying his feeds so much. Some days he'd have lots, and up my supply, then other days not so much so I'd get a bit engorged and, hey ho, another blockage. I did get antibiotics a couple of times which seemed to help but eventually it cleared once he settled into a pattern of morning and evening feeds only.

2 months is a long time. It might be worth getting a second opinion if your dr isn't very sympathetic.

DD has just gone 7 months. She doesn't have any sort of pattern to feeding.
I don't think it's mastitis as I don't have any of the other symptoms.
She is my third, you'd have thought I'd have BF sussesd by now wouldn't you?

Ah, poor you. I'm wondering if you've got a milk blister. I had this, where I kept getting the symptoms of blocked ducts in my right breast (always in the same place).

Will find some info for you on kellymom shortly - gotta dash (DS stirring - back later).

I think the oldestcat might be right - have read about milk blisters too.

milk blisters on kelly mom if you have a look there is also a photo on there that might give you an idea if it is the same sort of thing. hth.

I had I milk blister and phoned nct helpline. I followed their advice to put cotton wool soaked in olive oil in my bra to soften the skin and it worked, it went and didn't come back. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to being pain free.

I had a milk blister. I just left it alone and I think DS burst it.........
It hasn't come back, but I appreciate the pain of having one! Agony.

Sorry I didn't come back - crazy weekend.

How are you feeling now, sockmonkey?

I did the following (disclaimer - you should follow the advice of kellymom etc, not me, but here's what I did anyway). I had a white spot on my nipple, and also a blockage in the breast (hard, sore lumps) so not sure if this advice applies to you:

  • fed fed fed from the sore side
  • took nurofen
  • had a shower, massaged the sore bits, and hand expressed in the bath
  • used a wide-toothed comb (dragged through soap) to 'comb' from the sore lumps towards the nipple
  • savoy cabbage down the bra
  • finally, when none of the above worked, I washed the nipple and then used a sterilised needle on the blister (I didn't stab it, just lifted the side of it). It popped and I had instant relief. I washed the nipple, then let DS feed on it. The lumps went straight away and I've been fine since.

Hope you are feeling better.

another vote for milk blister/blebs - absolutely excruciating Sad

I called NCT and they were very helpful. Called Docs to see who I should see, was supposed to get a call back from Doc who would "diagnose over the phone", but they never called.
Am hopeful some of home remedies should work though.
