HELP - self settling/sleep/bf....I'm frazzled

DS is 6 months and won't settle without bf. He still feeds alot in the day, and at least 5 times overnight. I have started him on solids - he loves them and is starting to fill out. BUT I am at the end of my tether. The only time he sleeps is while feeding, or at night when he zonks out feeding.

I've ended up with him in my bed permanently just to get some rest - but it's still a nightmare ecery night. Tried a small bottle of formula last night (4oz). He slept 3.5 hours (a lot longer than normal) but was then up screaming the rest of the night with wind and I think a sore tummy.

I'm shattered and my parenting skills with my other children are stretched, to say the least. Not to mention my relationship with dh Sad

Thinking of a dummy now - but surely that's a bitr mad to introduce at 6 months when that's when you should be thinking about taking it away!

I fed DS1 to sleep every time. He is 2.6 now and goes to sleep on his own fine.
I'm feeding DS2 now he is 7 months and although he goes in his cot after I've fed him to sleep, when he wakes up for a feed I get him in with me. He wakes up less frequently and we all get more sleep :)

I figure its not forever and I know how precious sleep is esp when you have others to run around after!

I'm also contemplating taking the side of his cot and moving it up to our bed so I can slide him over and get a bit more room! (he is a chunk)

How about some other sort of comforter?

DS1 (now 4) still has his Sad, he sucked on its feet from around 6 months as I needed to do something. Its a bit disgusting (I wash every day so need a few) but dentist thought ok, much better than dummy.

Kat - that's great to hear. when did he start to settle by himself?

It's probably cos I fed the others for just 6 weeks, then formula, and they slept through the night from about 8 or 9 weeks, in their cots.

Oh nw mum - I have one similar to that, maybe I'll try. also thinking of trying the cot beside me as I have worked out how to feed from both sides while lying on one side
