baby starting to space out feeds meaning painful breasts?

my baby has started to go longer between feeding at night, she was feeding every 1.5-2 hours all day and night but now she is still doign that in the day but at night its more like 4 hours. The problem is it is meaning that I am lying awake waiting to feed her and my boobs are so full and painful. Last night I had trouble getting her to latch on as she seemd to be unable to get at my nipple properly. The feed was great once she started as she seemed nice and full and content but that just meant it was longer before she would take any more which led to the same problem a few hours later. During the day it doesnt happen because she is feeding more often.

Will things even out so that this doesnt happen or is this just something that happens at night?? at the moment I am either waking up because my boobs hurt OR because they are leaking everywhere of their own accord!

All will settle soon. It works on supply and demand; the demand has lessened so the supply will lessen too. You can ease any discomfort and make it easier for baby to latch on by gently hand expressing just a little milk, not too much, you don't want to stimulate more milk supply but if you are uncomfortable just easing the extra way is fine and won't affect things settling into a new routine.

As for leaking you can wear a soft bra and pop in some breast pads so you don't wake up all wet!

Your boobs will calm down. Been there. Feel for you - it is bloody sore. Good that she is feeding less often. Your body will adjust accordingly.

It will even out but will take a few days, maybe even a week. Annoying though to be awake in the night and have a sleeping baby. Best just to sit it out, pumping will just stimulate more.
