just wondering if there really is light at the end of the tunnel!
mine is 2 weeks and feeds take from 30-40 mins and then a break of around 30 mins then another with longer periods at night. hoping she will let me go at some point in the next month or two!

Mine is 6 weeks and feeds at night take 30mins or so (I can never decide when she's finished) but she does something like 6.30pm then 1.30am then 5am which is almost enough sleep for me. Every 3 hours in the morning, every 2 in the afetrnoon. She was 9lb at birth which i think makes a difference. How heavy is your dc?

There really is light at the end of the tunnel, babies don't carry on feeding like that for much longer, don't worry, it will pass.

Ans remember, the more you feed her the bigger she will get and the quicker this phase will pass....

There really is - DS is 22 mo but I really remember the early feed-athons. She's stimulating your supply and might also be going through a growth spurt. IIRC they are very common at about 2-3 weeks, 6 weeks and 16 weeks. I'm sure she'll soon get lots more efficient and the feeds will be shorter - my DS by 6/8 weeks had gone down to about 15 mins, with around 8 feeds per 24 hours.

Also at this age they have tiny tummies so need to feed really often to keep topping themselves up.

There are some threads too about cluster feeding - you might find them helpful if you find that she regularly has times when all she wants to do is feed. Well done for getting to now - I promise that if you can make it through the first 6 weeks bfing really does get easier.

Oh it does get better but what you describe sounds normal. My dd is 18 weeks old and feeds every 2-2.5hours. At the moment feed times vary from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. She usually cluster feeds in the evening until she is sleepy but will then sleep for 8-10 hours. She has been sleeping for long stretches since she was about 12 weeks. You'll find that your dc will gradually go longer in between feeds. You will find that you will get into a routine of your own then it will all change again! But it does get easier.

He is 17 weeks, and most feeds just last 15 minutes. Feeds every 2.5-3 hours in day but sleeps from 10pm-7.30am. Feeds gets shorter as they get older!

9 mo, and feeds normally last less than 5 mins, unless she's feeding to sleep and/or evening cluster feeds and then they're longer.

The early days are a good excuse to sit on your butt, catch up on TV, maybe get some DVDs in... make sure you have food and drink and just chill. Feeds of that length are normal.

Now I'm chasing down a crawling pain in the butt I almost wish for the longer feeds of days gone by Grin
