do/did any of your young babies feed better at night?

Everyday I have a real struggle getting my 9 week old ds to eat anything during the day. So of course I'm feeding him every 2 or 3 hours throughout the night, which he does beautifully. Doctor thinks he has reflux, (I'm nnot entirely convinced he does) but I'd like to know if babies can be like this if they don't suffer from it.

My dd was a little like this.Slept all day and fed (and screamed!) all night. Very hard going but I just tried to go with it,and watched a lot of weird and wonderful tv and tried not to expect too much of myself. They're funny little things babies,so hard to work out.

Should have said - I'm bottle feeding. (Expressed for first few weeks, but always used bottle)

He'll take a slurp - about 10/20ml when he first comes round from his naps, but then cry and pull away, or if I bounce him around in my arms a bit to distract him, he'll just play with the teat in his mouth.

From 8pm to 8am He takes about 400/450ml through the night and I struggle to top him up to 600/650ml through the rest of the day. Last time I had him weighed, 8 days ago, he was 9lbs 12oz, and had only put on 2oz that week.

I've tried feeding him in the bedroom, keeping it quiet and dark, but still to no avail.

Doctor thinks it's reflux because of the pulling away, as he arches his back too. I've been giving him Gaviscon as advised, but not sure if it's helping really.

It is a bit worrying, but I don't mind too much if this is within the realms of normal baby behaviour.

Poor you Moondog - at least ds remains quiet through the night - saves his screaming for the day!

breastfed babies tend to tank up late afternoon to late evening IME .. I think that might have some correlation to how well they take a bottle.

Also is far easier to feed when half asleep

charleypops, my ds2 used to feed far better at night and he has reflux, so there may be something in what your doctor has said. Gaviscon didn't really help him, so he's been on stronger medication for about 6 months now. I've posted quite a few times about reflux under the name SamN and there are useful links in my old posts, although some are specific to breastfeeding.
