Introducing bottles to a breastfed baby

My 4 month old successfully breastfeeds but will not take a bottle of expressed milk. We have tried different teats and using the bouncy chair in front of the tv to distract him but he either screams or chews rather than suck before becoming upset. Am in need of a break & have a wedding reception to attend (hmm)

You could always try a Doidy Cup?here
My HV sells them as do John Lewis.

Did your other half try and give the bottle rather than yourself? My 7 week old took a few minutes to get to grips with a bottle but was ok after a while. I used a Tommee Tippee one.

I have my dd her first bottle at 6 weeks. I started off by breastfeeding then gently slipped the bottle into her mouth. It worked for us and I've heard other people say they have done this. I ended the feed by breastfeeding again too. Worth a shot?

Be persistent!

we had real problems with this at 7 months (when I was returning to work) having given up at your stage. As MissB says, be persistent, offer a bottle every day until you win! We eventually won the battle when we switched to nuk bottles with latex teats. I have a friend who found the same ones worked in a similar situation.

good luck x
