Ds1 made me chuckle to day and I just wanted to share it.

Not sure if this is really the right place to post, but it is bf related and I ended up nearly wetting myself (must do those pelvic floor excersises ).

My ds1 is 5 I also have ds2 who is 19 months. I bf ds1 for 8 months Ds2 I bf for 11 months and he never took a bottle. Ds1 was fascinated with me bf. Anyway just recently after a school topic on babies he has taken to playing with a toy doll and we've bought a few little bits for it. Today he asked if we could get a toy booby so he could feed her. Me and DP had a little giggle and then explained that you couldn't get toy booby's. DP (ever the practical one) said we could get him a toy bottle and he could pretend it had bm in.

Ds1 was quite upset but then cheered up asking if we could get one of those attachment things that goes on the bottle. I didn't have a clue what he was on about until after 5 mins description I twigged. He was on about a breastpump! The 2 times I tried to express for ds2 must have really made an impression on him!

I was killing myself laughing. Dp gently explained that we couldn't get one of those either as they probably don't exist in the toy world. DS1 is very put out and considering writing to ELC with some new toy suggestions!

I am now slightly worried about what he may have said at school during babies topics. His description of a breastpump was slightly odd. Still I do seem to have produced a very open minded male. Let's hope he is as supportive of bf when he becomes a parent.

That is so cute, tutu!

Like the idea of the toy breastpump!

MathsMadMummy · 03/08/2010 23:28

that's so cute, and it's great your DS is growing up knowing BF as the norm.

I'm quite excited myself, as I just qualified as a BF peer supporter and along with the uniform, log book etc we also get our very own knitted boob!

tutu100 · 03/08/2010 23:37

Can I have one for ds1 please. I think he's worried his baby is going to starve.

Do yuo think he would be freaked out if I knitted him a booby?

hehe no if you're skilled at crocheting body parts, why not

tutu100 · 03/08/2010 23:55

I think I may struggle with the nipple.

How sweet of your ds.

I think it's funny (and lovely) how older dcs see you bf'ing, accept that it's what happens but don't quite understand it.

My 6yr old dd and I were talking about the fact that we buy 3 different types of milk, skimmed for me and dp, semi for her, and whole for 13mo old dd (who is also bf) and she went thru' the names of the different milks and then said to me "Mummy, what's the milk in your tummy called"

StealthPolarBear · 04/08/2010 13:28

there should be plenty of patterns for knotted breasts around - the NCT use them

sweetnitanitro · 04/08/2010 13:39

That's so sweet! There's a pattern here if you fancy having a go.

My DD is 22 mo and brought her teddy to me the other day, announcing 'teddy booby', meaning that she wanted me to feed her teddy too

loopyloops · 04/08/2010 13:43

perhaps not entirely appropriate (and you do get 3 of them... but juggling boobs might do the trick!

TruthSweet · 04/08/2010 14:49

DD1 had a insane desire for a toy breast pump a while ago and a very nice MNer sent me her old breast pump in the post. DD1 still plays with her 'pumper' as her baby is too poorly to have 'bah' and needs 'bah milk' in a bottle . She's nearly 4.6 y/o!

She does have form for stuff like that though - when she was about 18 m/o I got a photo of her using a knitted boob to nurse a doll at a breastfeeding group.

Mathsmadmummy - I'm STILL waiting for my knitted boob and I graduated last September. I'd even picked out a pretty pastel one but no, not got it yet

GokWannabe · 04/08/2010 15:07

sweetnitanitro - my 17mo DD1 also demands that I bf her teddy after I feed DD2, she is most insistent about it!

With DD1 I used to discreetly bf out and about in cafes etc without really drawing attention to myself - no chance these days. Each time I feed DD2, DD1 shouts 'BOOB!' very loudly and pointing enthusiastically, looking so pleased with herself that she knows the word. Its so loud people turn to look, so embarrassing!

tutu100 · 04/08/2010 15:24

That's it I am knitting a boob. Obviously Ds1's request for a toy booby is not that odd as there are patterns for them!

Thank you all for opening my eyes to the world of fake booby's. Loopyloobs I think DP would appreciate the juggling boobs.

Ds is not interested in feeding toys at all although he has claimed that babies can drink milk from his nipples. Dd bf her dolls though, I love it, just pulls her top down, shoves the doll towards her nipples and does a big shlurp . A friend's dd made me giggle the most though, aged 3 or so she was playing with a doll that had a bottle so she lifted her top, expressed into the bottle and then fed the doll

katiepotatie · 04/08/2010 16:00

I'm at work today, my mum just texted me to say dd aged 3 just said quite matter of fact, while lifting up her top "I'm breastfeeding my baby, she makes me cry when she won't feed"
I still breastfeed ds morning and night, and my sister just gave birth 3 weeks ago, she obviously is taking in every word we say!

Acanthus · 04/08/2010 16:08

DS1 used to "breastfeed" a doll when he was 2yo or so - just used to lift up his jumper and off he went
