There have been several discussions on here about vitamin D recently. There's an interesting item on Radio 4's food programme that's repeated (on fm) tomorrow at 4pm. Not available on listen again yet, but see here.

Thanks for this link - absolutely fascinating!

I'm glad I've been taking Vit D throughout my pregnancy and while breastfeeding (DS is 4 months old). This has reinforced my decision to give vit drops to my son once we start BLW.

PS it is available on listen again (I just listened via the website)

I had no idea I was supposed to be taking vitamin D. Should I be? (ebf ds2 5mo)

My hv advised me to take a vit d supplement while bf, yes. Think that is the official guidance now.

UNICEF statement on Vit D supplements Current NHS advice is to take Vit D during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and for babies over 6 months if not having 500ml formula a day. Any pharmacist should be able to help you choose a suitable supplement.

Actualy we had a last traning seasion on this, it's a problem in the entire population not just Pg mum's and young children. Everyone should be taking Vit D apparently recent studdies have shown about 85% of the population are defficent in Vit D.
